Remind me again…

Trying to hold on often leads to beautiful stories. Here are my receipts with notes on what goes down when we’re not looking. During my time in New York City, around 2 am one night, I left my flat in search of food. The only grocery store open that late was a 15-minute walk. I decided to try. On the way there I saw a couple making out in an alcove. Nothing special but I couldn’t get the image out of my head.

At the grocery store, I decided I needed to get orange juice and strawberries. My friend Chinwe who I hung out with on Tuesdays, once told me that I need to drink lots of orange juice to stay healthy. “Osi1!” he would say loudly, “you need to drink more orange juice… with lots of pulp!” I had severe hay fever in the spring, and would sometimes miss our weekly sessions as a result. Chinwe’s prescription was orange juice… with lots of pulp.

I bought other things, I think a slice of pizza from the shop next door, and began my trek home; the couple was still on my mind. I must have seen them as I walked, now too tired to care. When I emptied my bag at home, I didn’t have the strawberries. Did I forget to buy them? On the contrary, I had forgotten them at the shop as my receipt, and a call to the grocery store, confirmed.
